The Season 5 reunion of the Real Housewives of Orange County was a snoozefest. Perhaps TPTB at Bravo are saving the good footage for one of those “Lost Footage” episodes they seem to trot out during a ratings slump, but who knows?
At least Andy Cohen called out Slade Smiley on some of his lies. Left the show after Season 2? C’mon Slade, Jo left and you no longer had a place on the show. His friend and Coto de Caza neighbor Scott Dunlop, executive producer of the franchise, gave him a show with Jo, Date My Ex, which was a complete flop. Didn’t really date Lauri Waring? The footage has been aired, and Vicki was there. Wasn’t it creepy that Lauri still has Slade’s text messages and phone calls? Can’t wait for those to come out. How soon will Gretchen wiggle out of her relationship with Slade? She will succumb to the pressure all around her, I think.
Speaking of the timeline and Gretchen’s relationships, Jeff Beitzel died September 13, 2008, one week after Season 4 finished filming. Jay Photoglou starts talking and blogging about Gretchen in January 2009. After my posting announcing ‘Gretchen ‘s participation on the show, people posted comments about Gretchen and Jeff on my other website. In January, Jay Photoglou announces he’s throwing a party for Gretchen. The reunion episode takes place in February, 2009. In early March, Gretchen files her restraining order against Jay, Slade’s unregistered car is parked there, the Costa Mesa police run a make on the plate, so he is arrested for unpaid child support. They apparently got together around the time of the reunion, and Gretchen may have been doing some serious overlapping! Fast forward to Memorial Day weekend, when filming for Season 5 begins. Gretchen looked trapped in Slade’s lies. Kudos to Andy Cohen for calling Slade out!
Poor, beat up Vicki. Yeah, right. Threatening not to return for season 6 because the others are “beating up” on her, something she would never do. So comical, so typical Vicki. She has consistently beat up on every single housewife from day 1, season 1. Let’s not forget how she treated Gretchen Rossi last season. Thrown her husband, her ex-husband, Jeana Keough and every one else under the bus. Then denies it. Never owns it. Karma is a bitch. Hate Alexis Bellino , but glad she called Vicki out. But Tamra is correct, Vicki doesn’t see herself at all.
We’ll see what happens during the off season. Looks like Jeana Keough is coming back, as she mentions filming when she talks about saving her home from foreclosure again.
Absurd and dull. Thanks to Andy Cohen’s unwillingness to ask a real question, there were no fireworks, just absurdities.
Absurd: Gretchen’s denial of the general, world-wide Slade Smiley hatred. Buying Jo de la Rosa’s music catalog? Slade is still trying to hurt Jo, and using Gretchen to do it. Slime ball.
Absurd: Memo to Lynne Curtin: a wolf is a better mother than you. And the face-lift is fucked up.
Sublime: Vicki’s behavior (so far) Calling out Gretchen on Slade’s lie about his relationship with Lauri Waring, Gretchen needed to hear the truth.
Sublime: Seeing Tamra Barney come into her own, now if only she would get a makeover.
Absurd: Any utterance from the lips of Alexis Bellino, especially concerning her so-called religion. Fasting? Please.
What a sad season finale for the Real Housewives of Orange County. This trainwreck has gone, in five seasons, from high camp to Greek tragedy.
All I was looking forward to was the appearance of Jo de la Rosa, original housewife and ex of Slade Smiley. Alas, that was not to be, instead we get Lauri Waring telling Gretchen Rossi the truth about Slade.
Oh well, on the the Curtin girls. What a sad commentary on the parenting skills of Lynne and Frank, claiming not to know those girls were drinking in the limousine. Equally sad was Slade Smiley feeling the need to tell Frank, thus assuring more camera time for himself. It’s not like Slade gives a damn.
Every time you think you know how little control the parents have, you find out more. Alexa really didn’t understand why she couldn’t have a drink, meaning her parents never said no at home. The whole family needs to be in rehab.
Kara Keough coming along to talk Alexa off the ledge was a great camera moment for Kara, for Alexa, not so much.
We are left wondering if the Curtin’s will be invited back, if there is a season 6. They won’t turn down the invitation…let’s not forget the $90.000 they made this season. They need the money…
The rift seems to now center on this blog post you wrote. Tamra [Barney] wants you to take it down, but you refuse. Can you talk a little bit about why?
I’m not going to take it down. There were so many things that Tamra put out there to the press and the show that were contradictory or that were lies. All those things are out in cyberspace.ce forever and ever. So as soon as she can figure out a way to get all those things taken down, then I’ll be happy to take it down. But as long as those things are out there, the blog is my only source of truth and my only source of getting what really happened out there. I was rather taken aback by her because I believed she was my friend all season, and when she attacked me at the reunion show I was like, ‘Where in the hell did this come from?” So I wanted to clear the air up.
