On an upcoming episode of Bethenny Ever After, Season 3, we see her looking at an article on her Blackberry, and exclaim that someone else is claiming credit for inventing the Skinny Girl Margarita.
Who might that be? None other than her mother, Bernadette Frankel Parisella Birk She sold her story to Star Magazine. This was the same week Bethenny was named the third highest paid female entertainer by Forbes Magazine.

Super candid reality star and entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel has been married to Jason Hoppy for a year and a half, but according to her estranged mother in a recent interview she’s headed for divorce. Not only that, Bernadette Birk says the Skinnygirl Margarita concept was actually her idea. Really?
Bernadette told Star Magazine in an exclusive interview, “Right now, he is a good father, but soon she won’t need him and she will dump him.” She added, “Her husband seems like a really nice guy, but it won’t last. He is really too weak for her.”
When it comes to her daughter’s booming business as well, Bernadette didn’t mince words. The Skinnygirl Margarita mix help launch the bestselling author onto the third spot on Forbes’ list of Hollywood’s Highest-Earning Women with an income of $55 million — not too shabby!
The estranged mom explained the concept was actually her idea. “When she was young, her godmother, Eleanor Mogavero, would come and visit, and her drink of choice was a margarita. She was overweight, so I’d make her really low-fat ones. But [Bethenny] would never give anyone credit, it goes against her narcissistic point of view.”
Apparently she’s only spoken to her daughter twice in the past ten years. “She sells everything because money and power is No. 1 for her, and there is never enough. She only puts herself around people who can do something for her. It is amazing how she turned out just like her father.”
This is not the first time Birk has slammed Bethenny publicly. No doubt this stems from the E! True Hollywood Story interview of Bethenny, also. This relationship seems damaged beyond repair.

It is one thing to mix a Margarita that is lower in calories than a traditional one might be, but it’s a whole different thing to research and develop it, present it to potential manufacturers and distributors, and then actually get it marketed. And just a couple of the shows show Bethenny at events to push the product. I’m sure she made many many more appearances than were ever shown on TV. They also showed an episode with her being concerned about getting more of the product out to the retailers who were running out all the time. I would say that Bethenny has earned every bit of what she’s getting from her Skinny Girl line and her mother deserves the hole she dug for herself many years ago. She’s just a bitter old woman who is now jealous of her own daughter. If she had treated her daughter better over the years, she’d might be either reaping some of the benefits of the Skinny Girl products via a close relationship with her daughter or either Bethenny might not have had the drive to succeed and prosper on her own without all her mother had done to her. Kudos to Bethenny and all her hard work! You don’t owe your Mama anything.
What a witch, mommie dearest that is. What does she think made Bethenny so strong, indipendant, and self sufficient. Not having support, and I know first hand how hard it is to open up and trust people after being raised only having yourself to count on. You should be very proud of YOU’R accomplishments Bethenny, and tell your biological mom to crawl back under the rock she came out from.
This is a very sick person who would say such hurtful things about her daughter, though very telling as to the mothering Bethenny had growing up. She is a toxic person and Bethenny is doing the right thing keeping the beautiful family that she has created away from her. This is a great success story, not materially, but about the ability to transform a painful damaging childhood into a healthy vibrant life. Also, who cares if she was inspired by a memory she may have had of her mother preparing a drink? It would be one of the very few positive things she will ever take from that relationship, but she obviously wants to rob her of that also. This woman is a bitter and desperate excuse for a “mother”. I hope Bethenny continues on this journey of healing she is on and doesn’t ever make the mistake of letting this person interfere in her new family and well earned successful life she is living.
I think Bethenny has done well as a business woman, wife and mother. She has issues like all of us, but she continues to work on herself. Not many of us would look good working out our problems for all to see. Wishing her and her family the best!

Bethenny is so vile. Although this is pretty bitchy of her mother to say, it is SO true. Bethenny is the most narcissistic thing ever. And Jason has no balls. So wrong that Bethenny actually has procreated. The kid is cute, but she won’t be normal. But it’s all about Bethenny. Hope Bryn doesn’t turn out as vile as Bethenny.

Thanks for the comment “Admin”. That person sounds like the vile one and rather rabid to boot. It sounds like she’s taking the whole thing quite personally rather than being a pure spectator like the rest of us. Perhaps she needs an exorcism?
One look at that woman’s eyeballs and it’s easy to see her liver has the vitality of a Slim Jim.
A mother who says such disparaging things about her daughter’s hard-won success only proves what Beth has said all along about her issues.
If a man makes $55 mil selling a product he branded, he’s a business god. What’s wrong with a woman doing it? Nobody’s holding a gun to anyone’s head at the liquor or book stores.
As for the Hoppy marriage, any couple in this country has a 50/50 chance of getting divorced. Add in the financial ability to leave when things get tough, like many wealthy spouses, they may have worse odds. Nobody’s perfect and in the end, marriage is extremely hard to work through for most of us. But they have a beautiful child and I wish them much love and happiness as a family, either way.
Bethany is a fake! I agree with everything her mother said. I have never believed she is a “chef”…..she never cooks, she orders special foods in, what a liar.
She is trashy, rude to Jason’s parents, rude to Jason and will end up alone, divorced and Jason will get the baby. She doesn’t need a baby. She looks like an old woman, trying to be thin for the cameras.
obviously her mother is bitter, jealous & venumous. So sad. A real mother would wish her well & be happy for her success regardless of their relationship.
Bethenny and Jason have their issues as every single married couple on the face of the earth do! She has repeatedly said that he is the strong, silent type. I have no doubt he can hold his own with her. Opposites do attract and in many ways, they seem to complement each other very well.
I hope they can work with each other’s differences and be happy together for a long, long time. They each have adjustments to make but they seem committed to doing so. That doesn’t mean it is necessarily going to be easy!
As for her mother, I do wish she’d shut up and stop embarrassing herself. Everytime she speaks she does nothing but confirm how right Bethenny is to feel the way she does about her.

I suspect Jason is not weak at all…..he is quiet and he is fairly savvy in front of the cameras. If you listen to Bethenny she even agrees that Jason is not a wimp and that he just is strong but more on the reserved/silent side. Either way, Bethenny will either make her marriage work or not…..it is up to them both. I hope they survive fame….many don’t.
I agree with you, MG. I think Jason is to tougher than us viewers give him credit for. I love Bethenny, but lets face it – she is very loud and in your face, so I people assume she mows over him. I may be wrong but I think he is the strong, quiet type. I really hope they make their marriage work – they are very cute together. On another note – that mother of hers – what a desperate bitch!

Horrible statement! Horrible mother! Even if everything she alleges is true, be proud of your daughter and everything she has accomplished through her own hard work. The hard part is not the idea, but realizing its potential, the demand for the product, marketing it successfully and being able to turn that idea into a profitable business. Bernadette should be ashamed of herself for saying such mean and spiteful comments. Gracious she is not. Bethenny’s success is of her own making.
Bethenny’s mother lives in my good friend’s building. She said she is a nice person but drinks ALOT. Maybe the skinny girl was her idea
