There was a large, noisy crowd last night at The Venue in Horseshoe Casino, right outside Chicago in Hammond, IN. The setup was the same they use for the Reunion specials, with the women sitting at the front of the stage. One addition was a HUGE bodyguard, sitting almost directly in front of me.
The people who paid $149 for a ticket were able to take pictures with them and ask questions before the event.
Jenny Poulous of Flipping Out warmed up the crowd with her latest rap. She was a nice surprise. A mini-me Andy Cohen, John Jude was the Master of Ceremonies.
Phaedra Parks of the Real Housewives of Atlanta was introduced first, she came out from backstage wearing a skintight purple dress. Sonja Morgan, wearing her signature gold, was next. Kathy Wakile was in a skintight black dress, and the best looking shoes of the group. Gretchen Rossi was last, wearing a ton of hair extensions and a darker purple dress.
The first part of the show was a combination of Watch What Happens, Live and a reunion show. Segments of the last season with each of the housewives were shown and discussed. The people from the audience able to ask questions were pre-selected, which should have been expected.
Kathy Wakile is stunning in person, her bone structure is classic. They showed her on the episode in Punta Cana, with her “cuckoo, cuckoo” hand gesture at Teresa Giudice. She feels Teresa didn’t want her close to Melissa Gorga. She talked about how close Teresa and Joe Gorga once were, and hopes this rift doesn’t happen with her kids. She was eloquent when she spoke of family, the crowd cheered.
Sonja Morgan was shown in a segment of her burlesque on the Real Housewives of New York. When asked about the bloody coup (as I call it) at the New York franchise, she said those who take themselves too seriously get fired. Loved it. She said she never really got to know Cindy Barshop. When a question about Bethenny Frankel was asked, a strange hush went over the rather noisy crowd, Sonja answered by saying the ratings were higher in Season 4 than the three seasons Bethenny was there. They also showed a segment of the Gay Rights March, with Simon van Kempen hovering over her, the crowd booed him, and someone behind me said “He’s the reason Alex got fired”. Many believe that.
Gretchen Rossi talked about her continuing conflict with Tamra Barney, still clinging to the notion that Tamra owes her an apology. I spotted Slade Smiley in the back of the room, surprised he didn’t try for audience time. It would have been interesting to see what kind of reception he received. Gretchen confirmed she and Slade are not married, despite what Perez Hilton reported last week
Jenny Poulous has a Jewelry Line. The only one of this group with products is Gretchen Rossi with her line of handbags.
After the intermission, during which we had time to interact with other audience members and get our drink on, Phaedra Parks talked about how much she loves her son, the funeral home business she has started and the trip the ladies took to South Africa. There was drama during the trip, which we’ll see during Season 4. The host and Jenny Poulous played a game, asking the usual “who would you rather” questions.
The audience during intermission, open bar The guy with the red checked shirt (seated) is Rich Wakile
All in all, it was a good, not great event, but of course I’m not the star-struck type (Aquarius, you know). When it was over, the crowd seemed satisfied with the event. We were, after all, drinking in a casino, so the evening went on after the event, me carrying my I Pad in my bag.
Thanks for all your appreciation of my live tweeting last night. Those of you reading me know I don’t exaggerate or make-up stories to impress you. I just write what I see.
