This is a well-known negotiating tactic used by the Real Housewives. Kim Zolciak and Nene Leakes did the same thing before returning to the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Vicki Gunvalson, the longest tenured “Real Housewife” now filming her sixth season of Real Housewives of Orange County, made more money and had more comps than the other housewives. Jeana Keough expected the same salary hike Vicki received, her request was rejected and she was featured on season 5 for only a couple of episodes.
Truth is, these famewhores will come back for fifty cents. Remember the original premise of the franchise? Rich women living in luxury in gated communities that we were all supposed to envy as we watched their extravagant lives unfold in our livingrooms. In the meantime, we have:
Foreclosures and Short Sales: Tamra Barney, Teresa Giudice, Sheree Whitfield, Lisa Wu Hartwell, Alexis Bellino
Near-foreclosures: Jeana Keough, Peggy Tanous (the newest Orange County housewife)
Evictions: Lynne Curtin (three in one year) Nene Leakes, Michaele Salahi from Oasis Winery
Bankruptcy: Teresa Giudice
Divorces and Near- Divorces: DeShawn Snow, Tamra Barney, NeNe Leakes, LuAnn de Lesseps, Jeana Keough, Catherine Ommanney,Camille Grammer
Adult Children Behaving Badly: Bryson Bryant, son of NeNe Leakes, arrested at least twice, Josh Waring, son of Lauri Waring, in jail now. Ashley Holmes, daughter of Jacqueline Laurita, charged with assault in the weave pulling incident.
On the other hand, some of them have had great opportunities come their way because of these shows: Bethenny Frankel has turned her stint on the Real Housewives of New York City into a multi-million dollar corporation, selling everything from books, booze to baby must-have items, and the only one with a life interesting enough for a spin-off series.
Some have been allowed to “sing”, and teach us all about the use of auto-tune. Most have books, with varying degrees of success. Let’s face it, except for the circles they run in, who would have ever heard of these women? They also need to remember they don’t attract the MTV generation, they are the big spenders. Television is all about the advertising. Some markets don’t even carry Bravo. Take the money and run, ladies.
