Last week, I reported on the “Real Housewives” franchise going to Europe

America’s Most Successful Export

This week, the oc register has a report:

Just when you thought it couldn’t expand anywhere else, the “Real Housewives” franchise has crossed the Atlantic and has landed on “sophisticated” European shores.

“The Real Housewives of Athens” — Greece, not Georgia, U.S. — is currently filming and is anticipated for broadcast in the fall, according to nypost.com and many other media and celebrity gossip sites.

Like the other “Housewives” shows, “Athens” will follow a handful of affluent Greek women as they galavant around their capital city, also known as the cradle of democracy. We’re assuming that the show won’t focus too much on strikes, labor unrest, fiery riots and the debt crisis in Greece.

“Athens” isn’t the only European “Housewives” show planned. Versions to be filmed in France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Australia have also been optioned, with an Israeli version expected to be optioned soon.

And though it hasn’t been picked up yet, a cast for “The Real Housewives of Sandbanks,” set in the resort town of Dorset, England, has already been chosen.

The American “Housewives” reality TV show, which originated with Orange County, has versions in New York City, Atlanta and New Jersey, with Washington, D.C. and Beverly Hills scheduled to premiere later this year.
