Matt Keough Arrested for Drunk Driving

Is Matt Keough Back in Jail?

Matt Keough, the ex or soon to be ex husband of Jeana Keough of the Real Housewives of Orange County, was sentenced yesterday to a 90 day diagnostic program at Chino State Prison for two felony drunk driving convictions.

Former major league baseball player Keough suffered a severe brain injury in the early nineties when struck in the head with a baseball. His mental disability was discussed openly by Jeana throughout seasons 1-5 of Real Housewives, culminating in her seeking divorce. The couple have three children, now adults: Shane Keough,  a minor league baseball player, Kara Keough, a student at UCLA and an intern at E! Entertainment, and Colton, a recent high school graduate.

from the oc register:

Former major league pitcher Matt Keough is behind bars Friday after pleading guilty earlier this week to two felony drunken driving charges.

Keough pleaded guilty on Monday to felony driving under the influence of alcohol and felony driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding .08, and was sent to Chino state prison for a 90-day diagnostic program to see if he would be eligible for probation, said Deputy District Attorney Nikki Chambers.

Keough, who formerly starred on “Real Housewives of Orange County,” will be sentenced on Oct. 8 in Orange County Superior Court, prosecutors said. He faces a sentence ranging from probation to six years in prison, Chambers said.

Keough was arrested while driving to his Cota de Caza home on Aug. 15, 2009, Chambers said. He ran a stop sign, and then pulled into his home. His blood alcohol level was .30 – four times the legal limit of .08, Chambers said.

The former ballplayer has a history of alcoholism. He was convicted in 2005 for driving under the influence, and then violated probation in 2008 when he was caught drinking in bar in the Fashion Island Marriott.

I feel sorry for this man and his family. It seems the accident ruined his life. I hope he gets the help he needs.

So sad. I love Jeanna. Brain injuries are just as horrible for the family of the survivors, unpredictable behavior, I think Jeanna mentioned that he was verbally abusive toward her, such a shame because she was my absolute favorite housewife. I wish her and her family the best.

I feel empathy for Matt Keough. While I do not condone what he has done – and he is clearly (as he did in the past) paying the dire consequences of his actions, he clearly needs help. When he was struck by that line drive, he almost died of a brain hemorrhage. His life was changed in an instant, his personality changed, he literally became a different person after the emergency brain surgery – he has isolated himself & struggles daily. I pray he is able to serve his time safely, and then goes to another re-hab facility that could also help him cope with the loos of the man that no longer exists post traumatic brain injury.

I’ve watched the OC Housewives for all 5 seasons, and had no idea til recently Matt had suffered a brain hemorrage. As one who has also suffered a ruptured aneurysm and miraculously survived, I can sympathize with his struggles. No defense for becoming an alcoholic, but where are his doctors? Why is he not receiving the medical help he needs? There are medications which can help this man, and put his life on track. A brain bleed DOES indeed change a person’s life and personality, and Matt needs help in receiving whatever is necessary to accomplish a balanced life. It is extremely frustrating when people are so pitifully ignorant of the ability of physicians to assist in helping those who are so desperately in need of help.

alcoholics think they CAN control the alcohol so they would see no need for a driver.

In the 2005 case he injured the person he hit. I am sure I am not alone in thinking about how his “story” illustrates that one single moment in time (his baseball accident)can change the entire course of your life but I do believe he belongs off the street since he cant get his drinking under control.
