Alex Mc Cord and Simon van Kempen of the Real Housewives of New York City could not have been more gracious. After the book signing at Barnes and Noble in Chicago, a group of us walked down the street to Cagney’s a neighborhood bar. (See the private lounge? That’s where we met)
They complement each other perfectly. Alex is calm and relaxed, Simon is talkative and fun. Alex was dressed in a fuchsia shorts set, and cute black stilettos. Simon was very casual, in a pink shirt, the pink shoes we saw him buy during season two, a white jacket and jeans. There is absolutely nothing feminine about Simon, despite what Jill Zarin says, he can wear an outfit like that with confidence.
It was a fairly large gathering of a very mixed group, young and old, black and white. All fans. As we gathered around them in an intimate setting, you could feel the love in the room. They are very lovable people. By the way, Alex’s skin is a testament to avoiding the sun. Her skin, with very little makeup, is perfectly smooth. She is a beautiful woman.
First, let me address my anonymous status on this blog. Have you ever seen the movie “Julie and Julia”? In this film, the blogger, Julie, lets everyone at her job know she writes a blog. Guess what happens the day she takes off from work to write? You’ve got it. No one at my job knows I have a blog.
I explained this to Alex and Simon, and other bloggers present, and everyone completely understood. When I told them who I am, and what I do for a living, they were completely shocked!
Here are some of the impressions they have of fellow cast mates:
Jill Zarin: After two years of insults, there is no love there. Bobby Zarin has tried to reach out to Simon on Jill’s behalf, but it’s not working. At a recent event, Ally Zarin refused to speak to Simon.
Bethenny Frankel: This is a close relationship. Bethenny and Alex speak everyday. They are filming Bethenny’s new show Bethenny Getting Married? In fact, the day Bethenny went into labor, Alex was scheduled to film with her. Bethenny had a rough first trimester and a long labor and delivery. Bryn was not a “designer baby”, born at Bethenny’s convenience, as the so-called Bravo Mole Tweetmaxine says.
LuAnn De Lesseps has more to her than meets the eye. There are apparently two LuAnn’s, according to Simon. the one we don’t see is more natural and real than the one we see on camera. She’s just a girl from Connecticut when she’s being natural. She seems to be trying to find a place in the world. Her marriage to the Count was a farce long before we knew about it, and they were both guilty of indiscretions.
Kelly Bensimon. There was much discussion among the group of Kelly Bensimon’s breakdown, the references to the odor of cat urine and her constant craving for sweets. Many among the group were sure this meant Kelly is a meth addict. Alex knew nothing about the symptoms, but confirmed there is some drug use among the cast. I asked Simon about Kelly’s eviction from St. John’s. The producers felt another day of Kelly’s meltdown would be too much, and forced her to leave.
I asked them, on behalf of one of my readers, what they thought of the Teresa Giudice bankruptcy. They didn’t know about it, since the news broke while they were signing books, but Alex made the observation that everyone seems to think she and Simon are the poorest ones, and she doesn’t think that’s true.
It was nice to see them walk down the street without an entourage, just get in their rental car and drive off, with Alex driving. Yes, they had to pay to park just like the rest of us. They had a 6 a.m. flight out this morning, Alex is filming today with Bethenny at noon.
A great evening!
